What Is ADAS Calibration?

Does your vehicle have safety cameras or sensors connected to its windshield? Those sensors and cameras are critical components of its advanced driver safety systems (ADAS), which are designed to help keep you safe on the road.

When your auto glass suffers damage and you need a windshield replacement, most vehicle manufacturers require recalibration of the cameras and sensors connected to the auto glass.

  • ADAS cameras and sensors require precise aim, and even a minor collision or certain forms of vehicle maintenance can disrupt their calibration.
  • If your vehicle sustains any type of damage, undergoes a wheel alignment, or one of its cameras becomes disconnected, you’ll likely need to have the system recalibrated.

Types of ADAS Calibration

Different vehicle manufacturers require different windshield calibration techniques. Depending on the type of vehicle you own, the manufacturer may require static calibration, dynamic calibration, or both. At Centennial Glass, we perform both types of ADAS calibration to ensure we’re able to serve the needs of any driver.

Static re-calibration of cameras and sensors requires an extremely controlled environment and specialty equipment. Using a camera and sensor calibration (CSC) tool mounted to the front of your vehicle’s windshield, we recalibrate the camera system. The process can take an hour or more, depending on the make and model of vehicle you own.
Dynamic windshield calibration, sometimes referred to as mobile ADAS calibration, requires driving your vehicle at a prescribed speed on well-marked roads. We plug a portable unit directly into your vehicle, and as we drive it, the camera system recalibrates. The process typically requires an hour or more, depending on manufacturer guidelines for your make and model of vehicle.

When you make an appointment at Centennial Glass, we’ll let you know whether your vehicle requires ADAS recalibration. During the auto glass replacement process, a Centennial technician will perform the type of calibration required by your vehicle manufacturer.
